Revit is slow or fails to open projects - Sector Size
On some modern Windows systems there is a newer setting that is not supported by the Revit SQL database. This causes Revit to freeze while loading a project or run very slowly.
How do I confirm If I am affected?
- Click on the start menu and type "cmd"
- Run "Command Prompt" as administrator
- In command prompt enter this command: fsutil fsinfo sectorinfo C:
- If the value for the below two items are greater than 4096, you are affected and have to implement the solution below.
PhysicalBytesPerSectorForAtomicity > 4096
PhysicalBytesPerSectorForPerformance > 4096
How do I resolve the issue?
- Download the attached zip file and extract it.
- Right click on the extracted file "SetSectorSize - Modena.reg", click on "Show more options" and click on "Merge"
- Allow the file to add a new entry to your Windows registry if prompted.
- Restart your PC
Can I check if the issue has been resolved?
To check that the registry entry applied correctly: Please open command prompt as administrator again and run the same command as before: fsutil fsinfo sectorinfo C: , if the two values now show 4096 the fix has been applied correctly.
