My Autodesk software does not start

My Autodesk software does not start

Possible reasons for your Autodesk program to fail opening

(In order of likelihood)
  1. Autodesk software is not up to date
  2. You do not have the correct Autodesk license assigned
  3. Autodesk identity manager has been corrupted
  4. Your video drivers are out of date
  5. Microsoft Visual C++ is corrupt

1. Autodesk software not up to date

  1. Open Autodesk Access. It should be on your task bar, click the "Show hidden icons" button to reveal it, then click on it. If the icon is not there, you can search for Autodesk Access in the start menu to run it from there. If it is not present in the start menu, then download and install the app from here: Autodesk Access Download

  1. Check that you are signed in with the correct email in the Autodesk Access app.

  1. When the app is open there are two tabs Scheduled/Unscheduled, check both tabs and install all updates that are available. To get you up and running quickly prioritise these updates: 1) Identity manager 2) Autodesk licensing service 3) Autodesk CER Service 4) Autodesk Shared Components

2. You do not have the correct Autodesk license assigned

  1. To verify your Autodesk license go to manage.autodesk.com/products and sign into your Autodesk account.
  2. Search for the product you are trying to use. If the product is not listed here it means you do not have the correct license assigned to you. Contact your Autodesk contract manager to assign the correct license to you.
  3. Once correctly assigned, verify that you are singed into Autodesk access with the same email address you used to sign into the management website in your browser.
Note: If you are using AutoCAD please verify if your license is for "AutoCAD" or for "AutoCAD LT". Similarly for Revit, please check if you have "Revit" or "Revit LT". If your license does not match your installation, the program will not launch.

3. Autodesk identity manager has been corrupted

  1. First navigate to https://manage.autodesk.com/products/updates and search for the latest version of identity manger and download it.
  2. Then go to this folder: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdskIdentityManager , and in the folder right click on the "uninstall" application file and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Wait for the folder contents to disappear. It should only take a minute or so, then restart your device.
  4. After restarting Windows, run the identity manager file that you have already downloaded to install the latest version.
  5. After installation you will need to sign into Autodesk Access again.

4. Your video drivers are out of date

  1. Open "Device manager" by searching for it on the start menu.
  2. Once you have device manager open, expand the "Display adaptors" section.
  3. Here you will see the make and model of your video card. It is likely to be an Nvidia or an AMD card.

4.1 If you have a Nvidia card

  1. Open the Nvidia app on your PC, if it is not installed, go to this website and download it here: Nvidia app download
  2. Once you have opened the app go to "Drivers" make sure you have "Studio driver" selected.
  3. If there is an update available, please download and install it and restart your PC.

4.2 If you have an AMD card

  1. Open the AMD Adrenaline app on your PC, if it is not installed, go to this website and download it here: AMD Adrenaline app download
  2. Once you have the app open, click the Home tab if you are not already there. In the top-right corner, find the Driver & Software box and click Check for Updates.
  3. If a newer version of the driver is available download and install it and restart your PC.

5. Microsoft Visual C++ is corrupt

  1. Open the control panel and find "Programs and features".
  2. Scroll down the list until you locate some "Microsoft Visual C++" apps.
  3. Right click on every version of the app one by one and select "Change".
  4. In the new window that pop up, select "Repair" and then "Close"
  5. Repeat until all versions of the app has been repaired. (Note that you can only do this for versions newer than 2010, ignore 2010 and older if present).
